The purpose of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) is defined in Article 12 of the Kyoto Protocol to the UNFCCC, which is further supplemented by the modalities and procedures for CDM Projects in the Marrakesh Accords and subsequent decisions of the CDM Executive Board, sets out the international legal rules applying to CDM projects CDM purposes are:
1. To assist developing country Parties in achieving sustainable development, thereby contributing to the ultimate objective of the Convention; and
2. To assist developed country Parties in achieving compliance with part of their quantified emission limitation and reduction commitments under Article. |
